The Crayon Box has a long history of providing a quality child care and preschool experience for young children. Physical, emotional, spiritual and academic experiences are provided for every phase of the child’s development. Our center’s top priorities are that each child is nurtured and loved in a safe environment. The Crayon Box is also a bus stop for the Berrien Springs Schools providing before and after school care through 8 years of age.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library brings books to children’s homes. From birth until they turn five years old, children enrolled in the program who live in Berrien or Cass County will receive a new, age-appropriate book mailed to their home each month. By the time they enter kindergarten, children will have their own library of books and be more prepared to enter school and become readers.
Fernwood is a special place where people, plants, and nature come together. Beautiful gardens surrounded by forest are tucked into a landscape of 105 acres of cultivated and natural areas along the scenic St. Joseph River valley. Miles of trails await, and indoors, visitors may enjoy an art gallery, fern conservatory, nature center, cafe, and gift shop. Fernwood offers many possibilities for learning and enrichment, including classes, workshops, lectures, concerts, trips, exhibits, and special events.
Our purpose is to establish a climate of acceptance, love, trust and discipline, with programs of learning and enrichment where young children will experience growth in: feelings of confidence and self worth; relating to peers in a positive way; learning positive ways to handle frustration; achieving physical developmental skills; expanding desire to learn and discover; achieving pre-reading, language and pre-math skills; developing spiritual awareness of God and His creation.

We serve 3-5 year olds, along with a Transitional Kindergarten. Formal enrollment is in the Spring, but we welcome students throughout the year. Our Preschool is committed to providing a safe, age-appropriate environment where children learn and explore as they experience their world and its challenges. Our program encourages the development of each child’s unique potential: physical, emotional, social, creative, and intellectual growth.
